Zahid Reports 3.75% Higher TVET Program Applications In Six Months

Zahid Reports 3.75% Higher TVET Program Applications In Six Months. Applications to join Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes have seen a significant increase, rising by 3.75% from January to June this year. This encouraging development was shared by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who also serves as the National TVET Council chairman.

Changing Perceptions Of TVET

Dr. Ahmad Zahid highlighted that this rise in applications dispels the outdated notion that TVET is only for individuals who have not excelled academically. He emphasized that TVET can serve as a primary career pathway for youths, showcasing its importance and viability in today’s job market.

Government Investments In TVET Infrastructure

The government has made substantial investments to bolster the TVET sector. These investments aim to provide the necessary infrastructure and facilities to support the mainstreaming of TVET education. Currently, there are 1,345 public and private TVET institutions operating across the country.

Educational Pathways In TVET

Dr. Ahmad Zahid noted that youths who have completed their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and have an interest in technical education have various options within the TVET system. They can pursue qualifications starting from the Certificate level, advancing to Diplomas, and continuing up to the highest educational levels in TVET.

High Employment Rates For TVET Graduates

One of the standout benefits of TVET education is its high employment rate. Dr. Ahmad Zahid reported that 94.5% of TVET graduates secure employment. This high rate is partly due to employers’ preference to reduce dependence on foreign workers, especially in sectors that are considered dirty, dangerous, and difficult (3D).

Simplified Application Process And Special Schemes

The government has also introduced measures to simplify the TVET application process. Dr. Ahmad Zahid announced a target to place 400 Orang Asli students in TVET programmes this year, a significant increase from the 350 students who joined last year. A special entry scheme for the Orang Asli community is being established to encourage their participation.

International Collaborations And Opportunities

On an international front, Dr. Ahmad Zahid mentioned a recent collaboration with 220 Chinese companies, which have offered 5,125 training spots for Malaysian students in TVET-related fields. This partnership, facilitated by the National Skilled Workers Organisation (Belia Mahir) and TVET-related industry groups in China, is seen as a major boost for the TVET sector in Malaysia.

Conclusion

The rise in TVET applications and the government’s concerted efforts to enhance the TVET infrastructure and opportunities indicate a promising future for technical and vocational education in Malaysia. TVET is increasingly being recognized as a valuable and viable educational pathway that prepares students for successful careers in various industries.
