Nkangala TVET College Middelburg Campus
Nkangala TVET College Middelburg Campus. Nkangala TVET College Middelburg Campus has a rich history dating back to 1966 when it was established by Mr. Gert van Blerk, the Deputy Principal of the Technical High School. Initially, the campus offered part-time classes, but it quickly expanded. In 1977, the Technical Institute was established with Mr. Van Bla as Principal, and Business Studies were introduced in 1982.
The campus was initially located at the corner of Wanderers and Coetzee Streets in the old Middelburg Primary School Building. It was renamed Middelburg Technical College in 1983. Due to rapid student population growth, a new campus was opened on Brug Street.
Early Development And Growth
Students at Middelburg Campus have been actively involved in various political student formations. The Student Christian Organisation (SCO) was the first to be established in 1999 with the slogan: “Forward ever, backwards never!” By 2000, Middelburg Campus pioneered mentor studies and distance learning for students in full-time employment, offering contact sessions with mentor lecturers on an appointment basis.
Educare studies were introduced in July 1999, allowing students without a Matric to enroll for the N3 Course and those with a Matric to enroll for the N4 Course.
Strategic Partnerships
In December 2001, Middelburg Technical College became the first college in Mpumalanga and the second in South Africa to partner with Technikon South Africa (TSA). This partnership allowed students from both business and engineering studies to continue their education and complete TSA qualifications.
Students who completed N6 with a minimum of 50% in each subject could further their studies and earn a TSA Diploma. Upon completing their Diploma, they were eligible to enroll for a B Tech Degree at TSA.
Value-Added Services
In 2002, the college added value for its students by providing free accredited practical training at the Skills Development Campus. This training was available for engineering students enrolled in NCOR and N1-N3 courses, and for business studies students enrolled in N4-N6 courses.
In 2003, Middelburg Technical College underwent a merger with three other technical colleges to form Nkangala TVET College. Middelburg Campus became one of the largest campuses in the college, second only to Witbank Campus, with a student population of about 5,000 per annum.
