Release Of May/June TVET Exam Results

Release Of May/June TVET Exam Results. The Uganda Business and Technical Examination Board (UBTEB) is preparing to release the May/June 2024 Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) exam results. This significant event will take place on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) in Nakawa, starting at 10:00 AM. The release will be presided over by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni.

According to UBTEB Executive Secretary Onemus Oyesigye, the results to be released cover examinations conducted from May 14 to June 25, 2024, across 298 examination centers nationwide. A total of 1,694 candidates participated in these end-of-programme examinations, with a gender distribution of 880 female candidates (52%) and 814 male candidates (48%).

Scope Of Examinations

The examinations encompassed a broad range of disciplines. These included:

  • Diplomas in various Engineering programs
  • Business and Humanities Diploma and Certificate programs
  • Physical and Biological Sciences Diploma and Certificate programs

This diversity reflects the growing emphasis on equipping students with practical and technical skills that are crucial for both personal and national development.

Growth In TVET Institutions

The Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector in Uganda has seen substantial growth over the years. As of 2024, there are over 600 training institutions in the country, a significant increase from the 173 institutions recorded in 2011. The majority of these institutions, about 70%, are privately owned, according to the Ministry of Education and Sports. This expansion is a testament to the growing recognition of the importance of vocational and technical education in Uganda’s development agenda.

TVET Policy 2019: A Commitment To Skills Development

The release of the TVET exam results aligns with the objectives of the TVET Policy 2019. The policy underscores the importance of effective technical skills for individuals, enterprises, and the economy at large. It emphasizes the need for self-reliance at the family level, increased productivity, profitability, and higher incomes at the national level.

The government’s focus is on fostering employable skills and competencies that meet the demands of the national and global labor markets, rather than merely on the acquisition of educational certificates. This approach is aimed at creating a skilled workforce that can contribute meaningfully to the country’s transformation and economic growth.

Conclusion

The upcoming release of the May/June 2024 TVET exam results marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s education sector. It not only reflects the government’s commitment to advancing technical and vocational education but also highlights the progress made in expanding and enhancing the quality of TVET institutions in the country. As Uganda continues to prioritize skills development, the impact of these efforts will be felt across various sectors, contributing to the nation’s overall socio-economic development.
