VTF Program Brings Work Readiness Seminar To TVET Institutions

VTF Program Brings Work Readiness Seminar To TVET Institutions. Accra, July 10, GNA – The Vocational Training for Females (VTF) programme has made significant strides in the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) sector by engaging final year students from selected technical schools in the Volta Region. The aim is to prepare these students for the job market through an initiative dubbed “The Work Readiness Seminar.”

This seminar is designed to provide support services and essential skills that enhance employability and job creation opportunities for TVET graduates.

The Objective Of The Work Readiness Seminar

Ms. Linda Agyei, the Director of VTF, emphasized the importance of essential workplace skills for TVET graduates. These skills are crucial for preparing students for the realities and dynamics of the labour market. They help shape the students’ thinking and understanding of the work environment, ensuring they are well-prepared for the expectations that await them after graduation.

Addressing The Skills Gap

Ms. Agyei noted that employers often express disappointment with the lack of essential skills in new employees. She highlighted that while new employees might enter the workplace confidently with their technical skills, they frequently struggle to meet organizational expectations due to poor attitudes and character inconsistencies.

The Role Of The VTF Programme

In response to these challenges, the VTF Programme, a not-for-profit organization, has taken the initiative to engage final year students in technical schools. The aim is to orient them on the essential skills needed to excel in the labour market. Whether one works as a self-employed individual or as an employee, possessing good work ethics is crucial.

Traits such as punctuality, honesty, critical thinking, serviceability, integrity, dependability, a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and diligence are invaluable. These attributes can endear individuals to employers and customers alike, ensuring continued business success.

Skills And Techniques Taught

During the seminar, participants were guided on developing their Curriculum Vitae (CV) based on their internships with various companies. This helps them communicate their competencies and values effectively to attract employment. Additionally, the seminar covered essential interviewing skills, such as how to prepare for interviews, communicate effectively, answer questions clearly, and conduct themselves professionally throughout the process.

Encouraging Positive Attitudes

Mr. Emmanuel Adentwi Jnr, the lead facilitator, encouraged the students to maintain positive attitudes and be mindful of their conduct and appearance both in and out of school. He stressed that these factors play a significant role in shaping their values and perception in society.

Conclusion

The VTF Programme’s “Work Readiness Seminar” is a pivotal initiative aimed at equipping TVET graduates with the necessary skills and attitudes to thrive in the job market. By addressing the skills gap and promoting essential workplace ethics, the programme ensures that graduates are well-prepared to meet the expectations of employers and contribute positively to their respective industries.
