Ehlanzeni TVET College Nelspruit Campus Mbombela. For many years, Mbombela was known as a remote north-eastern outpost of South Africa, primarily serving as a gateway for visitors to the renowned Kruger National Park. In its early days, it was a frontier town.
However, times have changed. Political transformations and the economic development of the N4 Maputo Corridor have turned Mbombela into a gateway for neighboring markets, a business hub, and the capital of the province.
Historical Background
The town of Mbombela was officially established on 28 August 1884 when the Republican Volksraad approved the construction of a railway from the newly discovered Lowveld goldfields to Johannesburg. The railway line opened in 1895, sparking growth as people rushed to buy land in and around the area. Today, property prices are rising again, and the city’s economy benefits from its proximity to Mozambique and eSwatini (formerly Swaziland), with tourism identified as a growth area.
